Guests What is a service like? A small, family atmosphere that includes worship through song, preaching, and prayer.  See the “What to Expect” section of our website for more details. What is being taught? The Bible. Right now we are teaching through Genesis (see promo), which is the first book of the Bible.  We don’t add or subtract from its meaning, but desire to make its truth understandable and applicable. Our main teachers are Joshua Shearer and Paul Roark. Both are students of the word and desire to instruct out of love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith. Should I dress up for church? It would be wrong to say that God doesn’t care about what someone would wear to church because God is concerned about every part of your life!  The Bible includes lots of information about how one should dress, dealing with issues from cross- dressing (Deuteronomy 22:5)  to  appropriate dress when praying or leading in a church gathering (1 Corinthians 11:4-7) and also warns against dressing in a way to attract attention to oneself (1 Timothy 2:9-10). Here at the Grace Brethren Church we don’t have any more restrictions or requirements other than these that God has laid out.  We are careful not to teach as doctrines the precepts of men (Matthew 15:9).  Dress appropriately according to what the Bible says, and remember that God is concerned not only with what is on the outside, but what is on the inside (Matthew 23:28). Can I help in the church? Absolutely!  There are many ways to be helpful here at the Grace Brethren Church.  There are qualifications in the Bible for some roles such as elders, deacons, teachers, etc. but there are plenty of ways you can help even if you don’t meet those qualifications.  Let us know if you have a specific way you’d like to help, or we would love to help plug you into somewhere where you can serve God best. Should I bring my children? Yes!!!  We desire to have families staying together for worship.  There is nothing greater for a child than to see their parents worship God.  We love children and can help with any need that you may have as your family would join us.  During our meeting times there are rooms available for you to care for children, and also coloring pages and other silent activities that they can do right inside our main meeting room.  Do I need to bring money/offering? If you are a guest, or are not saved, we appreciate you joining us, but you don’t owe us anything.  All people do owe God a tithe of ten percent of our income to represent giving ourselves completely to Him (Deut 14:22-27).  This is not a requirement of the Grace Brethren Church, but rather of God (Mal 3:8, Lev 27:20).  The amount is between you and God, but we will encourage biblical obedience.  Above this we can give with a joyful heart whatever we would feel led too.  Do I need to join the church? Someone becomes a member of the church when they are saved (Ephesians 3:6, Romans 12:5).  This is not an act of the Grace Brethren Church, but rather of God through Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 12:18).  For the purpose of adhering to certain specifications of our government and general church management, we do have membership specific to our church that is expanded on below.  What do I need to do to become a member? As stated above you become a member of the body of Christ when you are saved.  If you would desire, you can join an official membership list for the purpose of voting on administrative decisions related to our church life.  There are a few requirements, mainly salvation and a righteous life, that you can inquire of from our leaders.  Can I teach? Teach what?  We would love to consider your desire to teach in light of the scripture’s requirements for a teacher of sound doctrine.  In the Bible there are many examples of ways we can teach. From parents teaching children, to older teaching younger there are many roles to be filled.  Please let us know if you have this desire and we’ll do our best to get you plugged in! How long do you meet on Sundays and Wednesdays? Typically we meet for one and a half hours on Wednesdays and Sundays.  If there are other needs that would require you to leave sooner, we will understand.  Don’t forget, believers should be meeting together all the time, so let’s do lunch! Why doesn’t your church building have a steeple, stained glass, cross, or pews? These things are traditions of the culture we live in.  There is nothing necessarily wrong with them, but there could be.  A church is not a building nor is it a church because of some objects that you may put in a building.  A church is a body of the people of God and sometimes objects distract from the focus of Jesus being the head of the body.  After examining some of these objects, we found no need for them at the present time.  > Site Map > Home > Guests > FAQs
